The War

Ask anyone born in the 80s in Singapore about war, we will most probably give a blank face (by those who slept during history class) or shooting off textbooks answers (by the studious ones). Never have been through the hardship of war, we can only be empathetic towards the plight of the people in African civil war or Afghan War. The sense of fear, helplessness, and hunger we feel in daily life is nowhere near a fraction of what these people are going through as to them, they are a matter of survival – to live or to die.

When we visited Memories at Bukit Chandu last year with the opening of the Circle Line (2011), we had the opportunity to received a comprehensive educational tour at the museum. Therefore, we decided to visit Memories at Old Ford Factory last Saturday to have a even better understanding of the whole ordeal our ancestors went through. If you are wondering, this factory used to produce Ford cars during pre – war times. This is the exact location where the surrender treaty was signed between the British and Japanese. For full history lesson of WWII kindly visit the official website .

Singapore would definitely have taken a different twist of fate if the British did not surrender. We might still be under the British rule as a colony. Or we might be under Malaysia ruling. If Hitler did not rise up with the ambition on wanting to conquer the world during WWII, we might be greeted by the evil Josef Stalin. The world might create something more powerful than the atomic bomb in order to subdued him.

But who are we to define the future?

Singapore General Election

Finally after 5 years of waiting, I get to vote.

After around 2 weeks of fierce struggling and rallying of MPs and the opposition party. It gave people a chance to voice out how they felt, it gave people chance to know more about Singapore government.

However, it also gave candidates a chance to speak up their mind. All sorts of words flew out from their mouth n emotions ran.

People saw criticism of all sorts thrown out by all parties contesting during rallies. Throwing up all the anger, dissatisfaction, disappointments and even encouragement. Yes, in order to win, everything was being said. From nasty to nice, apology to tears, threats to making-up. In order to WIN, everything was said. And it threw people in a 360 degrees whirlpool.

Admittedly PAP did their job. Within a matter of 50 years we grew from rags to riches.

Therefore, what exactly does the people want?

Mother’s day is coming. What the people want is akin to what most mothers would want. It is about staying good and healthy 365 days a year and not about talking back to our mummies everyday and buy tons of presents during mother’s day. It simply doesn’t work. It’s about helping the people and not about getting into parliament for your million dollar a year salary.

Fidel Castro places himself on the same level as his people. He is there becuz he wants to help the people. If PAP pays his minister like Obama salary, do they still wants to be minister?

Being a minister is about helping people and lending us a voice. It’s not about getting all the votes for this day and doing nothing in the office all day long.

Government should stop getting people to be MP just becuz they r scholars. It should be based on their heart to help.
