Fragile life

Life is filled with fragility and we will never know what comes next.
I went to my usual Chinese physician as I am sick. A familiar face was gone for 5 months at the age of 58.
According to one of the owner, her heart stopped suddenly at the operation theater for a minor growth on her back.
Just like that. Like is just like a piece of glass shattered so easily…

Randy Pausch’s Last Lecture
Posted by chinizachocolato in Bits & Pieces, Leisure on August 8, 2010
I stumbled upon this video through Facebook when a few friends of mine link it to their own page. even though it was a short 10 min clip, Randy Pausch has a lot to teach from this. The thousands or even millions of people over tv and internet may not be his intended audience, but i believe it is extremely useful to us as we forgotten those simple things in life.
In this lecture, he shared about how to live through our childhood dreams and how to achieve them. He having a happy childhood, he always dreaming and having the spirit of “anything is possible”.
sometimes or many times, we do not get what we wanted in life, however ‘ experiences are what you get when you don’t get what you wanted.”
one of his dream was football. and his coach was extremely strict and demanding. however his assistant coach explained that –
- it is a good thing that the coach’s training is touch because it shows that he care
- when you have done a bad job and nobody points it out to you, it because they have given up on you.
- if the person care to point it out, it shows the person just want to make u a better person.
his second dream was to work for Disney. however, all he gotten were rejection letters. when we have rejections, keep on trying. when Pausch ultimately got in, one of his project gotten him 15 years to complete. ‘ Brick walls are there for a reason: they let us prove how badly we want things.”
another way of living life is having a sense of fun and wonder, as well as having humility to keep ourselves in check.
another point is to allow the child to express his creativity.
when it comes to people vs things, Pausch had his own thought. when he bought a new car, he deliberately poured a can of soda at the back seats to teach his sister and niece and nephew that making people feel good for unavoidable mistakes are better than the value of the car.
often people value things we buy and taking extremely good care about it. nothing wrong in face i would say taking great care of our stuff is a good virtue. but sometimes, due to uncontrollable situations, we cannot blame the other party.
next was to decide whether we are Tigger or Eeyore. i guess i’m a bit of both. while Tigger is energetic, optimistic, curious, enthusiastic and most importantly fun. those who watch Winnie the Pooh will know that Eeyore is the opposite of Tigger
NEVER, EVER UNDERESTIMATE THE IMPORTANCE OF HAVING FUN.
Finally, work and play well with others -
1. tell the truth (having integrity)
2. Apologise (properly – sayI’m sorry, it was my fault, and how do i made it up)
3. Wait, and people will show their good side.
last 2 points includes, Showing of Gratitude; Don’t complain, just Work
it may seems easy and basic, all the pointers above. however i believe it is very tough wanting to fulfill them all especially of people’s weakness.
people might be wondering since everything is being said in the video why do I still want to write it down.
that’s because eventually if the video is taken down from Youtube, i’ll still have the pointers on my blog.
