Happy Father’s Day

It’s father’s day today and people all over the world are expressing their love for their dads. to many it might be a day to express how much they love their dad and the list of lovely things that the fathers had done for them and the family.
Father’s Day in Singapore is never exactly that big a thing compare to Mother’s Day. in Mother’s Day everyone including companies and retailers would make use of it as a way of making money. Just like Valentine’s Day.
On the other hand, do people need such events to remind us that we need to express our love towards our Father and Mother and our other half? Are we trying to say that for apart from this special day, the rest of the 364 days we could argue? fight? and show inappreciation to these people for what they have done?
Is it appropriate that we treat them with dignity and respect and toss in a dinner and gifts just during this ‘special’ moment, and cast them aside the rest of the year just because retailers hike up the price of everything and that shows more ‘sincerity’ through the extra penny thrown in??
Yes, i’m being a skeptic for special occasion because i truly believe that if u love someone, be it your lover, parents, siblings, friends, every day and moment is a very special time to be with them. but more often than not we tend to neglect and ignore them and take them for granted. Gifts could be given round the year for 365 days, not just that ‘special’ day because St. Valentine name 14th Feb Valentine’s Day and someone else name today as Father’s Day.
No, i’m not trying to say that we have to give flowers to your lover every single day or piece of auction jewelery to express your love. a simple hug, a simple thank you when he or she help you to do something which could be as easy as opening a door or carry your grocery.
