Alexander McQueen: Genius of a Generation

The book which I’m waiting for. Even though on Amazon i managed to find a McQueen autobiography that was published before his death, sadly Singapore do not have any copy of it. now with the death of this genius designer, everyone seems to be wanting a piece of him. Especially so when his infamous lobster claw heels were sold out within days when they cost as much as 2o over grand. it amazing what people are thnking off.

According to Amazon, released date will be 1st of July. but i believe that’ll be in either UK or US. i wouldn’t know if it’ll be in Singapore this year. Hope so…

My Personal Journey with Alexander McQueen

I first ‘befriended’ Mr McQueen through his works from pages of glossy magazine. At that time, I was pursuing my Diploma in Apparel Design from Temasek Polytechnic. Instantly, i was attracted to his immaculate tailoring techniques. Mr McQueen’s  designs has always been a source of inspiration for me.

Visually through his designs, i was in love with it. Even though I did not study into his life, his presence through his collections never fail to attract me as each seasons pass by. It went on with me as i took my Advance Diploma turning back to his designs time and again for inspiration.

During the first term of my degree studies, i had the good fortune and opportunity to write a report about him. His achievements through his career wow me. I have always been interested in tailoring over draping techniques. Through his achievements, it inspired me to want to be like him. Tailoring, tailoring, tailoring. My aim was to join Raoul, CYC and companies like such, after I’ve graduate from school in June 2010.

In my Bookmarks for my websites, I have set up a category titled ‘Always Frequent’. In it was the link to The Sartorialist website as i will visit it at least once a day and sometimes perhaps two to three times a day. (my another source of inspiration)

I got to know about Mr McQueen’s death through one of his post on the blog in the morning of 12th Feb. I was shocked and I nearly scream. I couldn’t believe it. Even though I know I still cant believe. He and his designs were and are still very important to me. Seeing the private man coming out to the catwalk after his show on Youtube, made smile. Every collections and every shows were amazing, magical. I was so upset by the lost of a genius who inspired me to take his path, even though i know i might not be able to go to CSM for my Master’s degree.

No more Alexander McQueen’s collection next year and the years to come. Even if they replace him with someone else, it will not be the same anymore. It was his thoughts, and feelings interpreted into his designs that made him special.

‘I cried, and my heart will continue to be grieving for you, Mr McQueen.”
